In our corner of the world, it is school holiday time and catching up on sleep is high on our priority list. Our bodies are showing signs of stress, illnesses have derailed several family members in the past few weeks and recovery has taken longer than it usually would. We are tired and we recognise the need to rest so that we can heal physically.
Our brains are tired too. We have all been studying and completing assessments and our exhaustion is evident in our behaviour and interactions with each other. We are less tolerant of the little things we would normally brush off as mild annoyances, we are less patient with each other and our focus and concentration are low. This break has come at a much needed time for our brains as well as our bodies.
While school holidays are a wonderful way to refresh our brains, Brain Breaks during teaching time can help to refresh student's brains during the semester, which may help reduce the stress students experience and may also help them perform better at academic tasks.
The link below discusses the benefits of Brain Breaks.
