When people have experienced extremely traumatic events, it is inevitable that there will be gaps in their education.
When determining what curriculum would best meet the educational needs of refugees, it is important to consider their previous educational experiences and evaluate their level of education. It is also important to be aware of what resources students have access to, in terms of educational materials and also teaching staff. This is likely to be specific to each individual student.
Curriculum choices also need to be placed in the context of students future needs of employment and their ability to participate in a sustainable society and ecology.
Most importantly, communities need to be consulted to ensure they have the opportunity to make decisions about what would best suit their own learning needs, and have the opportunity to direct their own future.
