A Space For Girls Education

In South Sudan, millions of people have been impacted by years of conflict.  Many children are not attending school and South Sudan has the highest illiteracy level in the world at only 27%.

Clean drinking water is difficult for some families to access in South Sudan and children can spend all day sourcing water, leaving little time for education.

Many South Sudanese children also do not have enough food to eat.

South Sudanese girls are particularly disadvantaged in education as families will favour educating boys over girls when they have difficulty meeting education costs and girls often miss a considerable amount of school due to menstruation as they don't have the necessary products to manage it.  Many girls leave school when they are married off in exchange for cows or money.

In creating a space where girls can be empowered by education, the following initiatives have planned:

1. Wells for access to clean water through partnering with Water For Africa.

2. Access to food and education about sustainable food production.

3. Access to sanitation through the building of toilets and supply of washable and discreet sanitary cloths through partnering with Days For Girls.

4. Literacy and basic education through the supply of books and access to teachers.  Training people from the community as educators.

5. Livelihood education to improve the employment prospects of girls so they are able to provide for themselves and their families and are less likely to be exploited.

6. Music and Art space with instruments and art supplies for the girls to express their music and artistic talents.

7. Multi age study groupings so girls can support each other in their learning.  Connect with older girls from the community to form mentor partnerships.
