
The Current Situation for South Sudanese People

The region of South Sudan has been impacted by conflict and instability for centuries.
South Sudan is one of the worlds newest countries, having gained it's independence from Sudan in 2011.
Civil war in South Sudan over the past few years has forced more than a million people to flee to neighbouring countries including Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic.
Those who remain in South Sudan risk death, kidnapping, rape and malnutrition.
Conflict has caused education to be inaccessible to many South Sudanese people resulting in South Sudan having the lowest literacy rate in the world at only 27%.
Girls are the most effected as their families do not see value in educating them and they are often married off before they even have a chance to reach adulthood.
